The Navigation of WP 3 “Developing Pilot Maritime Tourism Products along Venetian Routes “ has started

The first navigation of the trans-national travel on sailing boats recalling the ancient Venetian maritime trades routes foreseen by the WP 3 “Developing Pilot Maritime Tourism Products along Venetian Routes “ took place from 30 April to 4 May along the route Venice-Piran/Pirano-Novigrad/Cittanova and back to Venice.
The “Venetian fleet” was composed by two 12 meters length sailing boats “Arina” (photo) and White Moon”.
The navigation started on 30th boats reached the berthing in S.Elena at 2030 hours for the overnight stay. On 1st May the sailing convoy has left the Venetian lagoon at 0600 hours After 8 hours of navigation at an average speed of 6 knots, mostly with only sailing propulsion, it was approached the Slovenian coasts at 1400 hours and reached the berthing in Piran in front of Square Tartini at 1600 hours.

On 2nd hours in the wonderful location of the Altana Terrace of the Hotel Tartini. The speakers of the press conference were the vice mayor of Piran/Pirano Mr Bruno Fonda, Mr Alberto D’Alessandro director of Council of Europe Office in Venice, Mr Pietrangelo Pettenò administrator of Marco Polo System geie and Mrs Silvia Lecci of the Tourism department of Veneto Region. The press conference was chaired by Mrs Martina Gamboz and it was attended by a dozen of TV, media and press representatives. The press conference was covered by the Slovenian newscast RTL Slovenia, by TV- Koper Capodistria and by a joint latter TV and Italian Rai programme called Lynx Magazine.
A press article was published in the local Italian language newspaper “ La Voce”.
After the press conference the press and TV representatives had a short navigation with one of the two sailing boats under a stormy weather. In the afternoon a site visit of the salt fields of Sicciole and of the local salt museum took place with a guided tour. On 2nd May the boats started their navigation from Piran at 0700 hours for Novigrad/ Cittanova with windy and rainy weather. The boats reached the Croatian berthing at 1030 and at 1130 it was held a press conference in the location of the Muzej Lapidarium in Novigrad/Cittanova.
The speakers of the press conference were: the mayor of the city of Novigrad/Cittanova Anteo Milos, the president of the Italian Community in Novigrad/ Cittanova Mrs Paola Legovich Hrobat, Mr Alberto D’Alessandro director of Council of Europe Office in Venice, Mr Pietrangelo Pettenò administrator of Marco Polo System geie. The press conference was chaired by Mrs Martina Gamboz. April at 1900 hours from the port of Fusina and the two May a press conference was organised at 1100 After the press conference, a guided tour of the Muzej lapidarium took place and afterwards a guided tour of the city of Novigrad/Cittanova was performed by the same mayor Milos.
The morning programme ended with a visit of the premises of the Italian Community and a small degustation and a toast with the Istrian oenological and culinary excellences. By courtesy of Marco Polo System an informal lunch was offered to official representatives that have attended the press conference. ....and surprise...... the Croatian World Olympics champion in men’s trap shooting Giovanni Cernogoraz showed up ..... ! and the programme in Novigrad/Cittanova ended. The convoy departed at 0700 hours on Sunday 4 May back towards Venice.......and the navigation will continue on 20 June from Venice towards Corfu and Crete
